The Simpson Desert Bike Challenge is organised by Desert Challenge Inc.
The first race was held in 1987. In the early days the race was organised by a small group of volunteers. In 2007 the group incorporated as Desert Challenge Inc.
The Committee is made up entirely of volunteers from across Australia, from across all walks of life and across all cycling abilities!
Our purpose is to organise and conduct mountain biking events, including the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge, which will:-
- Provide opportunities for personal achievement in a sporting challenge
- Support community interests through raising funds for recognised charities
- Foster appreciation of the Australian outback and the natural environment
Every cent we raise through our online fundraising, our post-race auction and Fines/Fankyous goes to our chosen charity. Riders, crews and officials have raised more than $350,000 so far. Most years we’ve supported the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
