Simpson Desert Closed – Alternate Course for 2010

Good News and Bad News

The Bad News is that floods have closed the Simpson Desert for the 2010 Race.

The Good News is that we’ve found another desert to race across. The Great Victoria Desert!!!

Yes it’s official….Race Director Mark Polley has pulled this one out of the hat and put together a unique and challenging event….The Great Victoria Desert Bike Challenge

Permits have been finalised and it looks like being a great event.

While many riders are excited at having the first crack at this route, Mark is adamant that it wont be a pushover. The GVDBC could have many surprises up it’s sleeve.

Not since 1988 has the race been diverted from it’s original route…back then the race went past Uluru (Ayers Rock) to the Olgas.

Great Victoria Desert Race Overview

The race starts near Coober Pedy and heads west following the historic Anne Beadell Hwy. The route will take competitors through the Tallaringa Conservation Reserve and the Woomera Rocket Range covering approx 600km over 10 stages and finishing back near Coober Pedy.

All riders, support crews and officials have been registered and permits have been granted.

Please note that this is a restricted area and entry is not allowed without appropriate permits.
