Event Overview
The 2025 Simpson Desert Bike Challenge delivered one of the most memorable editions in recent years. Held from Tuesday 30 September to Saturday 4 October, riders experienced near-perfect desert conditions, with cool, crisp mornings and warm, stable afternoons. These ideal weather windows allowed competitors to settle into rhythm early and maintain strong progression throughout each stage.
Despite the isolation and challenge the Simpson provides every year, the atmosphere remained positive, supportive, and deeply connected to the event’s long running spirit of endurance, resilience, and community.

Field of Riders & Participation Notes
A strong field arrived at the start line at Pernie Bore, although not all were ultimately able to commence the event.
- Rider 10 – Christine Seeliger and
- Rider 4 – Andrew Causby
were non-starters due to mechanical issues, preventing them from reaching the official start line.
The remaining riders commenced the full course with determination and commitment.
Weather & Track Conditions
The desert offered some of the best racing conditions we’ve seen:
- Cool morning starts improving rider endurance
- Warm, stable afternoons with minimal wind impact
- Consistent surface conditions across most stages
This allowed riders to push confidently while still needing to manage the classic mixture of sand, corrugations, climbs, and energy expenditure that define the Simpson challenge.
Event Spirit & Conduct
The 2025 cohort demonstrated the traits that define the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge:
- Camaraderie among riders
- Strong teamwork between riders, officials, and support crews
- Respect for country, environment, and event traditions
- A deep commitment to charity and community contribution
The energy at camp each night was incredibly positive, with riders sharing stories, supporting each other, and lifting spirits during difficult moments.
Safety, Support & Operations
The event operated smoothly and safely thanks to the experienced team of officials, medical personnel, and volunteers across the desert.
Key operational notes include:
- No major medical incidents
- Mechanical issues limited to isolated cases
- Communications and logistics remained consistent
- Camps, water drops, and stage starts ran to schedule
Thanks go to every volunteer, support crew, and partner who contributed.

Fundraising Achievement
A significant highlight of the 2025 event was the collective fundraising effort, achieving:
$23,370 raised for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
This contribution continues the SDBC tradition of giving back to the essential organisation that supports so many remote and regional Australians.
