2009 Fundraising

Our Fundraising Efforts

In recent years the Desert Challenge Committee has turned it’s attentions to raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The RFDS is essential out in the areas where the Desert Challenge is held and so is an appropriate organisation for us to support.

Last year alone we raised over $20,000

On the 7th April 2010, Desert Challenge committee representatives Neville and Su Nottle presented a cheque for $7000 to Ross Curtis of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This brings the total fund raising for the 2009 Simpson Desert Bike Challenge to $20,621. On behalf of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, we would like to thank everyone involved.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides critical aeromedical emergency and health care services across Australia, assisting more than 250,000 patients each year. Whilst assisted by Government, the RFDS relies on public support to purchase new aircraft – at a cost of $6 million each. Voted Australia’s Most Trusted Charity.

RFDS

2010 is a landmarkyear for RFDS Central Operations as they welcome five new Pilatus PC-12 aircraft to the RFDS fleet in South and Central Australia. These aircraft will replace five existing ‘flying intensive care units’ that have been in operation since 1995, and following 15 years of service each of these aircraft will have conducted 15,000 flights and flown around 3.7 million kilometres.

Without their community-minded supporters, the RFDS would not be able to purchase replacement aircraft or the medical equipment their medical teams need to maintain their critical work.

So, please, join our army of supporters. Together we will achieve something very powerful – we’ll help to keep the Flying Doctor flying! www.flyingdoctor.org.au
