Race Director Vacancy

bossDue to Mark Polley’s resignation, the Race Director’s role is now vacant. We are actively  looking for the right person to join us in staging this exciting event.

Firstly the Race Director role is suited to somebody who has a passion for the desert and the event.  He/She is the primary representative of the Desert Challenge Inc and the committee for the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge. As head of the race crew, the Race Director has ultimate responsibility for the operation of the race.

This voluntary role involves overseeing the preparation for the event, running of the race and ensuring the safety of all participants.  This role requires basic IT skills  and high level organisation and decision making skills.

The Race Director works closely with the Committee, Rider Liaison Coordinator and 4WD Coordinator and uses the Event Manual (which includes a detailed Job Description and Guidance Notes), Committee Manual, Risk Management Manual, Committee Calendar and data base of contacts, templates and running sheets as the basis for organising the event. The role involves some level of activity across the whole year, peaking in July to October.

Reimbursement of out of pocket expenses is available.  Former Race Directors and current Committee members are willing and able to provide support and mentoring to the new Race Director.

If you are interested in finding out more, please email  or phone the President Iain Blair on 0408 488 172 as soon as possible.
