2020: COVID-19 Update

Updated: 14th July 2020

The Simpson Desert Bike Challenge has been held annually for 33 years, inspired by the spirit of our riders and their determination to keep going no matter what nature throws at them. Recently Australia has been faced with some very difficult times with drought, floods and fires. Now we are emerging from the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the July 2020 Committee Meeting we discussed the current situation and the progression of restrictions since the outbreak of the pandemic. In spite of the amazing effort from the Australian public in conforming to CoVid-19 there has recently been an ever increasing number of new cases being recorded which has caused some restrictions to be re-introduced and travel restrictions being enforced.

As a committee we have put in place all systems and processes required by all regulatory bodies to ensure that we do not run afoul of their process and as such we have a green light from them. However, the health and safety of our riders, their crew and our volunteers will still, as always, be our primary concern and as we feel that we cannot, in good faith, guarantee the safety of all participants.

We have decided that we have no option but to cancel this year’s event and get a good start in planning the 2021 event.

All riders who have registered for this year’s event can apply for a full refund or they can elect to roll over their entry for the 2021 event.

The good news that can be gleaned out of this decision! – look at all the extra training you can get in!
