Simpson Desert Bike Challenge 2021 – Race Cancelled

The Simpson Desert Bike Challenge has been held annually, inspired by the spirit of our riders and their determination to keep going no matter what nature throws at them.
At the August 2021 Committee Meeting, and the extra ordinary meeting held the next week, we discussed the current situation and the alarming spread of the new Delta variant and the rolling border and LGA closures.
In spite of the amazing effort from the Australian Public over the last 18 months or so, the spread of this variant has put us in the position where holding this event would be irresponsible and reflect badly on the event as a whole.
As a committee we have put in place all the systems and processes required by various regulatory bodies to ensure that we do not fall foul of their rules however the rolling border closures and LGA lockdowns have made it impossible to plan, with any degree of certainty, the 2021 event.

The event participant and our volunteers will, as always, be our primary concern. With this in mind we feel that we cannot, in good faith, guarantee the safety and freedom of movement of all participants and as such we have decided that we have no option but to cancel this year’s event.
All riders who have registered for this year’s event can apply for a full refund or they can elect to roll over their entry for the 2022 event.
The good news that can be gleaned out of this decision! – look at all the extra training you can get in, again.
